Ponni Boiled Rice

Ponni Boiled Rice, developed by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in 1986, is a hybrid variety resulting from the crossbreeding of Taichung 65 and Myang Ebos 6080/2. Named after the Kaveri River, also known as 'Ponni' in Tamil literature, this rice is predominantly cultivated along the river's banks in regions like Ariyalur, Trichy, and Madurai.

Grown extensively in Tamil Nadu, Ponni Boiled Rice thrives in the fertile plains nourished by the Kaveri River. The parboiling process involves soaking, steaming, and drying the paddy before milling, which enhances its nutritional value and shelf life.
